Devotional: Living Life on Mission Through Prayer
A companion resource for the "Life on Mission" sermon series: Part 1.
Our culture often minimizes the value of individual lives, but Jesus tells us that each of us has a unique purpose—one that not only matters but has an eternal impact. This purpose is rooted in living a life that glorifies God and points others to Him. Jesus calls us to “greater things” than we could ever achieve on our own, and He assures us that when we ask in His name, He will work through us to accomplish these things. This kind of life—one that is truly on mission—starts with a foundation of prayer.
This week’s sermon reminds us that prayer is not just an add-on to our busy lives; it is the essential link that connects us to God’s power and purpose. When we pray, we are not merely talking to God about our needs and desires but tuning our hearts to His will. In doing so, we shift our focus from temporary goals to eternal ones, learning to desire God’s glory above all else.
A life on mission requires this deep connection to God through prayer. Prayer reorients our lives, reminding us of our dependence on Him. We are not the source of our strength or purpose; God is. And it’s through regular, intentional time in prayer that we recognize this truth, surrendering our own desires for control and learning to trust in His plans.
Praying “in Jesus’ name” isn’t a magic formula; it’s a call to align our hearts with His. As we pray in His name, our desires start to shift. We become more concerned with what He wants for our lives and less with our own ambitions. Our mission then becomes clear: to live each day reflecting God’s love, power, and purpose, bringing glory to His name in everything we do.
